This weekend I have been reminded about what's important in my life - family, friends and good health.
Today is my eldest son's 18th birthday. It is so hard for me to look at the handsome, strong, young man standing before me and think he was a tiny (9lbs 7oz) baby once upon a time. In my head I'm still 18 - how did he get to be 18??
We had a lovely lunch at one of his favourite restaurants with my sister, Liam (my youngest son), Iain (the birthday boy), Iain's girlfriend Chelsea and Dennis (my boys' father). We were there at the same time as the EuroCup game was on all the big screen tvs so it made for some interesting conversation! Even Italy's stunning loss could not take away our happiness today.
I felt so blessed to be at the table with the people I love most in the world and the people I live for. These are the people I want to be around for a long time to enjoy my life with and to watch theirs unfold.
This morning, I did a 5k Fun Run at Downsview Park and my friend Barbara came along to be my support. She was an awesome cheerleader - she whooped and hollered and cheered for everyone going past her and patiently waited for me to come around the second time and finally cross the finish line. It was so nice to have her there, she even convinced some random stranger to take photos of me and email them to me! That's how awesome she is! I'll do a proper update on the run at My Events page later tonight, but it was a great run and I felt so good to be able to do this and not have health issues that stop me from being able to run.
Happy Canada Day and Happy Birthday Iain.
Life is good - that's what I need to remember on the hard days.
Happy Birthday to your soon! My mom always laments how fast we grow up.

Happy birthday Iain! I'm glad you got a little family time and Barbara sounds like a great person to have rooting for you! So thoughtful and encouraging!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to your son! I can't imagine my son turning 18, but I also imagine it's quite an accomplishment to make it there as a parent.
ReplyDeleteHey Enz! I found ghee at a regular grocery store. I can't remember which one - maybe Loblaws? It was possibly in the ethnic/Indian food aisle. I was pretty surprised to find it!
