Crisis of Faith

....in myself.

I've had a pretty good week but nothing really exciting to blog about. I missed a few days walking last week but managed to get out there most days. Yesterday I spent some time at the gym and pool at a friend's condo and did 30 min on the treadmill, 20 min on the bike and then 30 minutes water jogging in the pool.  Then we did a spur of the moment trip to Buffalo. It was a long day, and I was glad when we finally got home.

Today the weather was cold and rainy and it just affected my mood negatively. I had zero motivation to do anything and spent most of the day reading or listening to music.

On a good note, I heard from an old friend via Facebook last week and it was wonderful to reconnect with him and catch up the last ten years.

I am still not sure what is going on with me and this weight loss effort. I am exercising more than I ever have, not overeating or bingeing and just not succeeding. It takes alot of planning and effort to eat right and find time to exercise and that doesn't seem to be paying off right now.

Still, as I keep reminding myself - EVERY DAY - there's no going back - only forward.

Every step forward counts. You will get there.

It's frustrating to be doing all the right things and not seeing success. My recommendation would be to shake things up... keep exercising as hard (or harder), but take a different tack. Sometimes your body simply adjusts to one exercise and it becomes less and less effective. Same goes for diet (but moreso on the workouts, I think).

Good luck getting past this plateau...

Don't be too hard on yourself. At the very least you are being consistent and it's only a matter of time before your work pays off. It's frustrating I know - but I also know that YOU are going to do this. No matter what it takes!

Things are always so hard when it seems like all that effort isn't going anywhere. But it will. You are doing great.

I'm with Jack, even though he's kind of full of it! :) Shake it up - when you exercise, the kind of exercise, any food "ruts" you are in. I know first hand how frustrating it can be when it feels like you're going nowhere, despite the hard work. You can do it!!!

Sorry you're in a bit of a lull Enz but if you've lost a little faith in yourself, we are here to carry the torch for you until you get it back. Keep it up Enz, the success will come!

I also believe that it's okay to rest too. Our bodies, allegedly, have set points that they reach and can resist further progress. Getting healthy is a long and hard process, mentally and physically. It would be unreasonable to think that we can endure it for too long without taking a maintenance breather every now and then.

Its okay to rest, our bodies need that! Dont beat yourself up. Look at how far you have come. Your not giving up, your still moving forward.......maybe just at a slower pace (than you like). Im there, but I CANT give up! Just keep working at it! You can do it!

Consistency is definitely key - and as you say, there's no going back! :)

Keep up the great work. It WILL get easier, and you WILL see results.

Looking forward to meeting you!!

I'm sure all your effort will pay off. :) Have you tried measuring yourself to see if any loss is going on there by chance? Good luck and you can do it! :)

Remember that you have already lost quite a bit! By proud of that!

Try to do something different maybe? Do you have access to a bike or different exercise classes you could take? Try something new!

You and are are about the same weight, and I was feeling like I was doing all the right things too and stuck. I added a healthy snack to my 3 meals a day... still staying within my calorie range and added some strength training and the past couple of weeks I've been loosing, loosing. I know different things work for different people.

I don't care what anyone says, weight loss is hard work. I know for myself I'll be doing all the right things and feel like nothings happening but then shazaam something happens. You notice clothes fitting differently or catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and you notice a change.

Hi Enz, I just wanted to agree with 'jack' about turning up the intensity of your walks. Maybe setting a goal of lowering your avg pace/km? How about that to shake things up a bit?

Be patient. I'm sure one day your body will understand it's not winning this weight loss game and will cooperate again and you will lose more weight.
